Smart Forum is the current name of the organisation formerly known as the Central Asian Cellular Forum, registered as 3G Technologies (Guarantee) Ltd. The registration has not changed. The people, the institutional relationships and the position in the regional technology ecosystem have not changed. What changed is the scope of the work, and the name eventually had to follow it.
What the forum was for
The Central Asian Cellular Forum existed to convene an industry that was being built in real time — bringing operators, regulators, vendors and academia into the same room while the region's mobile networks were still being planned. That convening role produced two things beyond the events themselves: a working understanding of how policy, spectrum and deployment actually interact in this market, and a set of relationships that has outlasted several generations of network technology.
Both of those are still the foundation of what we do.
How the work expanded
The change was gradual and it was driven by demand rather than strategy.
In 2013 we established PhoneWorld as an independent entity. It has become one of Pakistan's most credible digital publishing companies, covering the mobile ecosystem in depth — policy, regulation, operators, distribution, devices and academia. Running a publication at that scale taught us the operational side of digital media, which is directly where our MediaNest platform came from.
We launched Medelz as a creative platform where artists, fans and brands meet across music, dance, fashion, photography and film — a different audience and a different set of engineering problems from telecom.
Since 2015 we have been the technology partner to the Karim Khan Afridi Welfare Foundation, whose youth empowerment and drug prevention work is the reason Clear Minds exists. That platform digitises an evidence-based prevention curriculum so it reaches young people at the scale the problem requires.
Alongside these, organisations kept asking us for the things adjacent to convening: build us the system, train our engineers on 5G, run the security review, manage the programme. Those requests became the three practices we run today.
What Smart Forum does now
Three practices, one accountable team.
Digital transformation — website development, custom software, mobile applications and social media marketing. The digital estate an organisation actually runs on.
Managed services — employee training, security risk analysis, device and terminal support, official event planning, and programme and project management. The operational capability that rarely justifies a permanent hire.
Capacity building — 5G technical training delivered in collaboration with the Qualcomm Wireless Academy, from executive primers through to protocol-level engineering, plus AI enablement for teams moving into applied machine learning.
Why "building the future with AI"
Because it is the honest description of where the work is going, and because we mean something specific by it.
AI, applied well, lets an organisation connect with the people it serves, engage them properly and empower them to do more — at a scale that was not previously affordable. That is what Footy Insight does for match analysis, what MediaNest does for a newsroom, and what Clear Minds does for prevention education.
Applied badly, it produces confident nonsense at scale. Which is why our AI work always ships with grounding, citation and a human in the loop on anything consequential — and why AI literacy is part of the training curriculum rather than an afterthought.
The forum convened an industry while it was being built. The software house builds what comes next. Same organisation, same standard, more of the work happening in code.
